Pottery CAMP 2019

Clay and Pottery Camp at SBAP is a one-of-a-kind camp that takes place in St. Louis in a real pottery studio.  Students will experience art camp and pottery taught from the perspective of a resident teaching artist. Clay Campers will spend part of their day hand-building, and part of their day learning to throw on the potters wheel. Students will explore, design, and MaKe each week with unique concepts and themes. All summer art camps are one week in length Monday thru Friday, register for each week individually. 

Summer Dreams

June 10-14

Ages 5-14 | K-8 | Cost $200

During this week of Clay Camp students will sculpt their summer dreams into surreal functional and non-functional art. Students will work with hand-building and wheel throwing techniques each day.

Mystical Creatures

June 17-21

Ages 5-14 | K-8 | Cost $200

Clay Campers this week will create altered forms and abstract sculpture while looking for magical and mystical abstractions found in nature as inspiration. Students will work with hand-building and wheel throwing throughout the week.

Under the sea & coral reefs

June 24-28

Ages 5-14 | K-8 | Cost $200

Come learn about endangered coral reefs and under the sea around the world and make nature inspired art with meaning and purpose. Students will sculpt Coral Reef inspired landscapes and under the sea sea creatures while learning all about hand-building and wheel throwing.

Summer Art Show

There will be a summer student art show on Friday August 2nd 5-8pm.  Students from summer camp will have their art work on display for friends and family!

Fashion Design Camp 2019

"ECOTURE"

Fashion Design Camp 2019 is focusing on "ECOTURE" a sustainable fashion trend that aims to make a difference. During summer art camps students will learn about slow fashion, fast fashion, up-cycling, creative re-use, and last but not least The Fashion Revolution! For the past 10 years SBAP has hosted The Fashion Project and Summer Fashion Design Camps in St. Louis. Tweens and Teens will learn all about the fashion design industry from concept to creation.  Young designers will learn how to sketch the figure, make patterns, cut fabric, hand-sew, up-cycle, and use the sewing machine to create a head-to-toe look. Students will be invited to participate in our annual Fall Fashion Show to model their own creations (more info TBA).

Eco-chic

Eco-Chic is a practical way of supporting a sustainable earth without compromising glamour or high fashion. Students will create a look using natural dyes, fabrics, and nature inspired motifs as well as research designers in the industry who are "Eco-Chic" conscious.

Slow Fashion

Cost $225


Slow Fashion puts an emphasis on the art of clothes making and celebrates the skills of the craftspeople who make them. Young designers will learn how to MaKe and buy better-quality garments that will last for longer and values fair treatment of people, animals and the planet.

Fashion Revolution

Students will learn about the "Fashion Revolution" movement and how to promote change with the clothes they BUY and how to ask the simple question #whomademyclothes. Students will become Fashion Revolutionaries as design a head to toe look...

Teens & Tweens

Fashion Design Camp is for teens and tweens. Students will work with their age group most of the week however groups do inter-mingle throughout the week.

Tweens: 9-12

Teens: 13-18


Designing-Head-2-TOE

Each week of Fashion Design Camp represents a different head to toe look.  When designing head to toe students spend time creating from their core as a way to express who they are.

Supplies

Students are asked to bring a few small supplies to camp that are donated to the classroom supply. Students should bring 3 spools of thread, 1 pack of embroidery needles, 1 pack of sewing machine needles.

Fall Fashion Show

SBAP hosts an annual Fall Fashion Show for students to model their own creations in a real fashion show.  While most students will want to model their own designs in the show others can choose a friend to model their designs. More info and details about the show is TBA...

Registration

  1. Register for each week of camp by paying your deposit. We cannot guarantee placement until your deposit is paid.

Students should bring with them the 

following items to camp.

  • Refillable Water Bottle
  • 2 snacks

  • (1) t-shirt (light color or white)
  • Any supplies listed

Meet Brittany

Brittany is an artist, educator, mother of two, and Dutchtown neighborhood resident who is an active volunteer in the community. Brittany works with the Pottery and Fashion Design Program and is the Teen Apprenticeship Co-Ordinator.

Meet Ron

Growing up right around the corner from SBAP, Ron has close ties to the neighborhoods of South Broadway.  He received his BFA in Ceramics from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  For the last five Summers Ron has worked as the lead pottery instructor at Cedar Lake Camp.
