It is our belief that everyone should have their own hand-made artisanal mug and why not make it yourself. After work. After dinner. Bring your mom, kids, friends, and co-workers... Instruction is provided and we will walk you through each step of the process and when your all done we will dip it in a color for you or come back to
hand paint and glaze yourself!

"MaKe-A-Mug, Cup or Bowl"
Students can expect to MaKe 2 Two projects on a 5 hour pass. The first project for new students is a 2 hour "MaKe-A-Mug, Cup or Bowl" utilizing pinch, coil and sculptural techniques. The 2nd project usually involves a few more steps and can be completed in a 1, 2, or 3 hour session.

(1) You can get started by clicking RESERVE & PAY to sign-up for the 2 hour MaKe-A-Mug project:

(2) You can use the rest of the hours on your pass in 1, 2, and 3 hour increments by clicking HERE to reserve your studio time between the hours of 10am-6pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
Kids and Adults can learn to take their artistic processes of MaKing to the next level with a 12 or 28 hour pass. Beginners and all levels welcome.
You can choose to hand-build, wheel-throw or both! Instructors are working with students the whole time and we will walk you through
each step of the way. Passes can be used in 1, 2, and 3 hour increments.

Teens and Adults with a 12 or 28 hour pass can learn how to throw on the potters wheel.

HAND-BUILDING at Open Workshop
Hand-building involves making forms with your hands, fingers, and simple tools. Students who focus on hand-building will start at the beginning learning the most common hand building techniques which are pinch pottery, coil building, and slab pottery.
HOW TO USE YOUR PASS
Due to new Covid-19 polices, SBAP requires ALL students to reserve Wheels and Hand-building time by click on links below or by texting 314-773-3633
(1) Use your pass in 1, 2, and 3 hour increments.
(2) Beginner Wheel Demo is on Satrudays and Sundays at 2pm. Beginner demos are a small group text 314-773-3633 to get on the list.

(4) We will email bi-weekly or monthly statements for you to track the hours on your pass. Be sure to re-fill your pass hours as needed.

Come back and glaze, paint, or stain your own pottery. Just make sure to wait 2 weeks from Saturday before coming in to finish. Instructors can also dip your pottery for you in our artisanal studio-made glazes. Pottery made here is fired to cone 6, which means it is food safe stoneware as well as dishwasher and microwave safe.

Pottery Pick-Up is ready for pick-up in 2 weeks from Saturday weeks as pottery needs time to dry and then we do the 1st fire (bisque fire), and then 2 fire (glaze). To be sure your pottery is ready for pick-up click here before making a special trip. (When picking up yours or your friends pottery it is a good to know the class date and or have a picture)
Students with a 12 or 28 hour pass who want to learn to Throw on the Potters Wheel should attend a 1 hour demonstration to learn the basic steps of wheel throwing and our studio! All students must have a pass to attend a hands-on wheel demonstration
Learn about scraffito, mischima, image transfers, or painterly techniques. We are always doing new and different techniques with surface design at Open Workshop.
